DANA 60 RING and PINION Gear Sets
DANA 60 Ring and Pinion Gear Sets for all car, light truck, 2wd or 4wd vehicles using a DANA 60 Front axle or DANA 60 Rear axle. The DANA 60 rear was first introduced in 1955 and the DANA 60 front in the early 70's. Up to about the middle to late 90's (this date varies by vehicle manufacturer) most DANA 60 pinion gears used shims to adjust pinion bearing preload. The next version used a collapsable spacer (crush collar) to adjust the pinion bearing preload. The pinion gears were made differently to use a collapsable spacer so proper identification is necessary to get the correct replacement gear set.
Please view the photo at the bottom of this page to see a comparison of the shim style pinion gear and the collapsable spacer style pinion gear. The listings below will show each version and the style.
Most DANA 60 axles will use "Low Pinion" Standard Rotation Gear Sets but some FORD 4X4 trucks used a DANA 60 FRONT AXLE with a REVERSE ROTATION "High Pinion" Gear Set. They are also called Reverse Spiral Bevel and Reverse Cut gears. These can be identified by the pinion yoke being above the center of the ring gear. Ideal for lifted applications to alleviate driveshaft angle problems.
Over the years the DANA 60 has been made with a 10 spline and also a 29 spline pinion. The 29 spline pinion is currently all that is available. If you are replacing an older gear set that has a 10 spline pinion you will also need a new 29 spline pinion yoke to match the u-joint size of the original pinion yoke.
